Quebra Pedra (Phyllanthus niruri) is a small annual plant found in the Amazon Rainforest. In Peru is it known by its Spanish name of Chanca Piedra – which translates to ‘stone-breaker’. It called this because it promotes the reduction of calcium in the body such as kidney stones and calcium build up. Quebra Pedra may be taken as a tea and is an excellent tonic and caffeine-free drink to promote wellbeing. Many of the plant’s actions are attributed to lignans, glycosides, flavonoids, alkaloids, ellagitannins, and phenylpropanoids found in the leaf, stem, and root of the plant.
